Machine: Large Scale Additive Manufacturing (LSAM)
Material: Carbon fibre
Product: T16 Speedboat
Company: Tahoe Boats

Using the LSAM by Thermwood for the first time in 3D printing on this scale of boat production, the T16 was able to be produced with less waste and within a shorter time frame than before, offering greater efficiencies across the project.

The boat hull was printed in 6 sections before being pinned, bonded and assembled together and machined to its final size. The Thermwood LSAM is able to 3D print and trim on the same machine. The boat hull was then sanded and polished by an external company in a propriety coating which had been developed using previously 3D printed parts.

The latest LSAM by Thermwood can now 3D print a Tahoe boat in one piece, taking away the need to pin and bond pieces together.

“Additive manufacturing has the potential to dramatically change the way boats are built” Ken Susnjara Thermwood CEO.
